Where Are They Now?

Al Brock

I started my radio career at age 13 in Denver, and when my parents got a divorce, we moved to Zephyrhills and I was on the air through most of my high school years at what was then WPAS. Eventually, I took a job in Lakeland at WONN, and later at WQPD where I had the chance to work for Les Howard Jacoby and George McGovern. I worked in Tampa at WDAE, WQYK FM, WLCY AM under PD Bob Tracy. WYNF (when it was known as FM Y95FM) under PD Chuck Morgan and then Bob McNeill, and finally at Q105 in the late 70's under Mason Dixon.

From there it was APD/PM drive at the legendary WLOF in Orlando. The PD was current Q105 PD Scott Walker.

After that, I became a PD and successfully programmed in markets such as Tallahassee, Des Moines, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton PA, Norfolk, VA, Harrisburg PA, Indianapolis, In, Rochester NY, Richmond VA, Providence RI, St.Louis, MO, and Nashville.

My last gig was in Pennsylvania as PD of a big country station. When that ended, my wife and I moved back to Nashville and started my own record promotion business, called Spin Doctors Promotions. I enjoy working for myself, but like many, I miss the way radio used to be.

My son and his wife reside in Tampa, and my sister is still in the area, so I get back quite a bit. I love Tampa Bay and am proud to be an alumni of Tampa Bay's impressive radio community.
