Dave
Green This Ohio University alum came to the Bucs
in 1976 in the expansion draft from the Bengals, where he was
the last of the old style straight ahead kickers, not the soccer
types that had become en vogue. With the Bucs Dave not only punted, but did
the place kicking, the last in the NFL to do the double duty.
Dave is in the record books as having scored the first regular
season points ever for the Bucs Dave Green is the man you see on the NFL Hi-Lite
films, showing the miscues of those early Bucs, Dave is the one
holding for Neil O’Donoghue’s kick. Charlie Hannah
snapped the ball over both Dave and Neil’s heads. Ah yes,
infamy, Dave loves it. Dave has ventured
into broadcasting, having done a national TV show with Tedd Webb,
“Sports Collectables”, featuring baseball and football
cards, plus other collectables, sold over TV ala Home Shopping
Network. Dave also teamed with Tedd to do color commentating on
Time Warner High School Football. This Ohio native was in a Rock & Roll band
through high school school and in college. “The Blues Incorporated”
featured Green on drums. Seeing what drummers make today, Dave
jokingly says he feels he made a wrong career decision by choosing
football. Green goes down in history as one of the funniest
football players ever to walk through One Buccaneer Place, “you
needed a sense of humor in those days”. Dave owns his own business, Green’s Screens
in Tampa. He installs and repairs pool and patio enclosures. Dave Green can be reached at: greensscreens@aol.com |
