Daylon
Rushing
Daylon Rushing was to radio in Tampa Bay what
Ricky Nelson was to Rock & Roll. Young, energetic, charming,
charismatic, & good looking, Daylon was every bit the teen
idol to his legion of fans.
He started his career at a very young age
in 1963, working at stations all over the state. WEDU, WUSF,
WPKM, WYOU, WALT, WPAS, WDCF, WINT, WMFJ, WWWW, WKKO, WFUN, WLCY,
WTSP, WFLA, WDAE, and WJYW.
Daylon Rushing’s career had him working
with some of the biggest names in the business, including Mike
Harvey at WFUN in Miami. Harvey’s Saturday night syndicated
show is “Super Gold” broadcast live from Walt Disney
World in Orlando.
Daylon will go down in history as one
of the most popular disc jockeys ever to work Tampa Bay. Live
remotes from Ben T. Davis Beach on the Courtney Campbell Causeway
are legendary.
Daylon was responsible for giving a lot of
young kids their start in radio. He always had time to help out
folks who wanted to choose this field as a career.
Daylon still lives in Tampa and has been doing
Internet Radio broadcasts for the past couple of years. He still
has that boyhood charm and still turns the ladies heads.
Daylon Rushing was named Honorary Chairman
from Florida, for The Business Advisory Council, by the U.S.
Congress, and later was awarded the Congressional Honorary gold
Medal of Honor. He was born, and raised in Tampa, Florida.
