Daylon Rushing

Daylon Rushing was to radio in Tampa Bay what Ricky Nelson was to Rock & Roll. Young, energetic, charming, charismatic, & good looking, Daylon was every bit the teen idol to his legion of fans.

He started his career at a very young age in 1963, working at stations all over the state. WEDU, WUSF, WPKM, WYOU, WALT, WPAS, WDCF, WINT, WMFJ, WWWW, WKKO, WFUN, WLCY, WTSP, WFLA, WDAE, and WJYW.

Daylon Rushing’s career had him working with some of the biggest names in the business, including Mike Harvey at WFUN in Miami. Harvey’s Saturday night syndicated show is “Super Gold” broadcast live from Walt Disney World in Orlando.

~ 1973 ~

Daylon will go down in history as one of the most popular disc jockeys ever to work Tampa Bay. Live remotes from Ben T. Davis Beach on the Courtney Campbell Causeway are legendary.

Daylon was responsible for giving a lot of young kids their start in radio. He always had time to help out folks who wanted to choose this field as a career.

Daylon still lives in Tampa and has been doing Internet Radio broadcasts for the past couple of years. He still has that boyhood charm and still turns the ladies heads.

Daylon Rushing was named Honorary Chairman from Florida, for The Business Advisory Council, by the U.S. Congress, and later was awarded the Congressional Honorary gold Medal of Honor. He was born,and raised in Tampa, Florida.

UPDATE: April 14th 2013 ~ RIP ~

Daylon Rushing, a teen heart throb DJ at WALT and WLCY in the hey days of the mid 60s passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at age 64. Daylon had been battling health issues the better part of the last 20 years.
