Don Owens was miles ahead of his time when it came to being on the edge. Big Daddy as he was called, was the morning drive host at WLCY before Jim Stanley. When not doing his radio show, Don loved to be on his motorcycle. He was good at it, and could be seen and heard leaving the parking lot on Gandy Blvd.

KOTO King of The Oldies Kurt Curtis adds:
Don was always wrecking something. Prior to being killed, he struck a light pole on 4th Street and 75th Ave back in 1965, and completely demolished his muscle car. He suffered severe cuts to both legs. He was charged with wreckless driving and no drivers license -- ouch!

Donald Victor Owens died as he lived, in a motorcycle accident in early February 1966.
