Where Are They Now?

Jeff Rogo

Jeff Rogo arrived in the Tampa Bay area in July 1972, fresh out of John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. Jeff had interviewed with Jack Thayer at 1220-WGAR in Cleveland. He didn’t realize Thayer was consulting with 97-WFLA in Tampa. Thayer suggested that Jeff apply for the Midnight to 6:00 a.m. shift on the New 97-WFLA which was playing “All the Hits, All the Time” along Florida’s Suncoast. Once hired, he joined an airstaff which included Jack Harris, Scott Farrell, Tom Clarke, and Bill Phisher.

During the 70's and early 80's, "Rogo on the Radio" was heard on 97-WFLA, 93.3 WFLA-FM, 86 WAZE in Clearwater, 1250-WDAE, and 620 WSUN.

He was a disc jockey (45 rpm records!), news announcer, talk show host, and Bucs’ “Tailgate Party” host. Jeff was also a radio “time” salesman and community affairs director. In 1986, he helped the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg launch its radio station, 90.5 WBVM.

Jeff has been out of radio for fifteen years ... admitting his ego really misses it. He has worked in management for professional and trade associations based in the Tampa Bay area. He even had a five-year stint as Alumni & Development Director for Jesuit High School in Tampa. For a few years, Jeff taught Broadcast Announcing at the University of South Florida. A few of the students who were in his class have gone on to media careers - Sharon Parker, Carmen Roberts, and George Lowe.

Today, Jeff is the Government Affairs Director for the GMS Group and represents two real estate associations before city and county governments. (He doesn’t have to work a weekend shift!) Jeff lives on Isla Del Sol in St. Petersburg and can be reached at:
