Jim
Karvellas Born and raised on Chicago's South Side, Jim
Karvellas attended Columbia College of Broadcasting and Northwestern
University, where he honed the skills that have earned him the
respect of his peers as one of broadcasting's most competent &
versatile sports-casters. His 31 year career began in 1962 as the Voice
of the Chicago Zephyrs, the NBA franchise before the Chicago Bulls.
In 1963, the Zephyrs became the Baltimore Bullets and Karvellas,
the NBA's youngest announcer, began a 16 year stint as the Bullets'
radio and TV voice. The move added new
dimension to his play by play career when he entered the broadcast
booths of both the Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Orioles'
1969 / 80 World Series appearances. Karvellas' career and versatility blossomed
nationally in the 1980's & 1990's when he was selected to
have such assignments as:
- Radio/TV Voice
of the New York Knicks (1980/1992)
- Radio/TV Voice of the NASL's New York Cosmos
(1976/1986)
- CBS Network NBA Basketball Coverage (1978/1986)
- PlaybyPlay Host of USA Network's NBA Game
of the Week (1979/1981)
- Host and Commentator for 26 nationally
televised PGA and LPGA golf tournaments including: the Ryder
Cup and the TPC at Ponte Vedra, the Kemper Open and the Westchester
Classic.
- Host and Broadcaster of Chris Evert's first
professional tennis win
Despite a heavy broadcast schedule, Karvellas
has developed a strong entrepreneurial side in sports and sports
marketing since 1974. 1989 Present Conceived and Co founder the
Celebrity Golf Association. The CGA has staged 29 tournaments
over the last eight years. Karvellas also wrote and produced "The
Master System to Better Golf' instructional video featuring Craig
Stadler, Tom Purtzer, Gary Koch and Davis Love 111, and carries
a 5 star rating recommendation from Golf Magazine and ranks among
the best instructional golf videos ever produced... Jim now has a syndicated radio program.
