Mason
Dixon
The most recognized
name in Bay area broadcasting is Mason Dixon. The man who drove
you home in the days of the
old Q 105, from that 100,000 watt ‘Flame Thrower’
Memphis was home to Mason, who got his start in radio early
in his life. Various stops later he landed in Los Angeles at
KHJ radio working for the Bill Drake gang. Pete Shulte, the Q105
General Manager summonsed him to Tampa and the rest is history.
Mason landed at Q105, where Cleveland Wheeler was already entrenched
as the morning man. Scott Shannon was soon to follow, and radio
history was in the making. The most dominating format to hit
the air waves in years.
Mason left Q105 after the power Pig takeover in the early 90s,
headed to Alabama. His stay in Dixie did not last, as he missed
Tampa Bay. Mason returned to the Bay area, hooked with with Pat
Brooks, Bill Connolly and Jo Jo Walker, and started a very successful
morning team at Mix 96.
The came mix 100.7 and finally a return to his old stomping
grounds 104.7 where he hosts a morning show on Oldies 104.7.
His old sidekicks Jo Jo and Bill are with him.
Definite Tampa Bay Radio Hall of Fame.
