Where Are They Now?

Steve Carney

Steve Carney is one of the true rising stars in Tampa Bay radio.  He started out in radio back in college spinning rock tunes overnights at a tiny radio station that no longer exists in central New York.  After getting kicked out for spending too much time at the station and not enough time in class, he ended up joining the United States Navy.

After an enlistment that saw him get deployed to Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq... twice, he decided to get out of the military, and take his honorable discharge somewhere where he'd never see snow again.  That desire to get away from the cold led him straight to Tampa Bay.

Once in the Sunshine State, Steve was able to get in at 620 WDAE “The Sports Animal” as a contributor for “The Ron & Ian Show,” and eventually became their executive producer, before moving to help create the short-lived night show "Out on the Ledge" with Scott Ledger.  He also produced Tampa Bay Storm arena football broadcasts for two seasons, and Tampa Bay Lightning hockey for the 2006-2007 season.

Currently, he is the network producer and fill-in pre-game and post-game radio host of the Tampa Bay Rays.  He's also been known to spout up on-air doing Sports Attacks for  620 WDAE, during baseball season, and covering Tampa Bay news throughout the off-season for sister station 970 WFLA.

A University of South Florida graduate, Steve currently lives in St. Petersburg with his wife, Emily, a Pinellas County teacher.
