Tom
Rivers
Born in Erie Pennsylvania, Tom Rivers worked
his way down to Tampa Bay and established himself as the top
Country personality on radio. His friends included the
biggest names in Nashville, who respected Tom as the programming
genius he was.
WQYK was his home base for years,
where he became Program Director and eventually the General
Manager . Tom joined WQYK while he was still a student
at USF , he started a meteoric rise in the business in
a short time.
In 1996 Rivers was named Country
Music Association Major Market Personality of The Year.
He also got that award at the Academy of Music Awards. Tom
also did TV segments for WFLA-TV and WTVT on
Country music. Rivers also worked in Washington DC and Chicago,
but Tampa Bay was always his home.
Tom passed away in his sleep at age 38 from
Bronchial Asthma on March 21st 2004 in Chicago.
