Yvonne
Painton A true Tampa native, Yvonne began in radio
in 1977 as a News Anchor and Assistant News Director at WRUF while
attending the University of Florida in Gainesville. After graduation
in 1979, she worked a short time in Lakeland at WONN, but left
quickly when offered an anchor position with The Florida Network
in Orlando. In 1981, Yvonne departed the network for the afternoon
anchor/editor position at WPLP in St. Petersburg. When WPLP "sank
into the swamp" in 1982, she landed at WDAE as Assistant
News Director and met her now-hubby, Scott. In 1983, an offer came from Los Angeles and
she packed up and headed west to be an anchor at KNWZ and then
KFWB, KFI, and then settled in for a while as News Director of
KHJ/K-Earth. Scott followed to L.A. in early 1984 and she and
Scott did the truly decadent thing of the 80's and married in
Las Vegas in May of 1984. Homesick for her family and lifelong
friends, Yvonne convinced Scott that they should return to Tampa,
and they did in 1987. Yvonne went to work at WFLA as afternoon news
anchor (the coolest part of the gig was working on a daily basis
with her pal Tedd Webb). Tiring of delivering "bad news"
every day and convinced that shootings and stabbings weren't what
the public wanted to hear, she left in 1988 when 98 Rock (then
Classic Rock aimed at the "yuppie generation") came
calling and made her an offer she couldn't refuse. Radio News...
it still wasn't what it used to be... so it was time to get out
and find a new adventure. So in 1992, Yvonne began Max Communications,
Inc., an audio production and communications company specializing
in custom on-hold messages for businesses and "telephony
audio" such as voicemail, IVR, etc. in addition to the "usual"
commercials and industrial voiceovers. Yvonne is also the national
voice of Sprint. Now an international company, Max Comm has a
staff that hails predominantly from a background in radio and
the creative staff and voice talent is some of the best Yvonne
and Scott have had the pleasure to have worked with, in Los Angeles
and in Tampa. Yvonne thanks "the good old days of radio"
for leading her on the path to the "great todays of Max Comm."
Not much of a "terrestrial" radio listener anymore,
Yvonne's listening habits are now "beyond AM and beyond FM"
but she does tune in often to hear her buddy "Teddy"
still going strong! In 1995, Yvonne and Scott, along with their
family, founded a "krewe" to participate in Tampa's
Gasparilla Parade and others. As a board member of the Inter-Krewe
Council of 33 Bay Area krewes, The Krewe of Pair O' Dice is "Yvonne's
baby" and she loves its 100 members, their diligent charity
work in the community and the fun, of course... it's all about
the fun!
