Hi Tedd - Since I'm from St. Pete High class of 1968, WFSO was the music of my youth. I used to think of it as my own little radio station, then I found your website today and realized that others listened to WFSO as well. What a small world! You know, that station had a profound effect on it's listeners if they're still talking about it after all these years. Congrats to all the forward thinking DJ's and program directors that made WFSO such a legend. I found a couple of the DJ's names in your where are they now section, but I can't remember all the staff, maybe you can put a WFSO section together with some background and stories. I just finished reading about Shock Armstrong on the Channel 13's website, that was really great since I use to love watching Shock on Friday nights.

Thanks for helping me track down the current status of Howard Hewes. Growing up in Detroit and listening to WXYZ, then WKNR and always CKLW -- THIS IS CK Country! -- I will always be a fan of A.M. radio. You and Howard are among my first memories of coming to MacDill AFB, January 9, 1972. I fell in love with Tampa and will always consider myself -- do I dare say it? -- a Tamp . . . Nope I think I'll slide over that one.
I see you pissed off John 3:16 Cook. Good for you and keep up the good work. And J 3:16 C keep in mind just because you weren't convicted doesn't mean you didn't do it. Ask OJ. |

Dear Ted,
I know over the years you can't remember everyone. But you truely have inspired me and I am so grateful I found your site. You use to bowl at Regal Lanes in Tpa. when my mother Syverine, and my grandfather T.O.Thompson bowled. I have two daughters (you flew the same flight my youngest daughter Kindra flew when she went to boot camp) and you took the time to put my mind at ease and promised to keep an eye on her. You did a "great" job ... and she did a great job serving our country for 10 years as well. Anyway, don't want to tie up all your time ... I know you have plenty to do besides chat with me. May God bless and keep you and your family always.
Your Friend

Hi Henry!
It's been awhile but you might remember me from Regal w/Gary Pennisten.
I am a pro chess coach (I won a North American Championship myself in 1989) and over the years have had many national and state champions.
Alexander Katz, age 7, just won the National Elementary Championship in Pittsburgh w/a perfect 7-0. Two weeks before he won States w/8-0 = 15 straight wins!
As you know, a sport is judged by how it promotes itself.
Letterman's people have pre-interviewed Alexander. I have contacted all the TV stations with no success, even though they have covered me in the past. The Animal's phone screener even blew me off saying it's a great story but there is no interest and wouldn't even letme talk to Steve.
Any tips on how I can promote Alexander, my clubs, myself, and the sport???

As a Webmaster, Radio talk-show host, radio historian and full-ime Internet researcher and searcher, I can say with authority that teddwebb.com is the only site that encourages and successfully brings together both fans of his Radio show, and fans of Tampa's Radio and past.
I always enjoy the site not only because of Tedd's comments, but moreover because of the most interesting contributions by fans and friends. Anyway, I've always believed that what the people say is more important than we as talk-show hosts have to say, as *they* are thye true barometer of the community!
Why can't other Radio show hosts get the message?
Anyway, wonderful second anniversary wishes to this site and all the folks who keep it interesting!

Tedd,
After all these years and you are STILL my aunt's favorite Tampa-St Pete media personality. Congratulations on the second anniversary of your terrific 'webbsight'.
Whenever I'm in the Bay Area (which isn't frequent enough, I'm sorry to say) I always
flip the dial to "FLA to catch you.
God Bless and keep up the good work. Remember an old adage I live by: We all may have lost some hair and gained a few more pounds, but we'll always have Booker Reese.

Tedd, We've enjoyed your website, a lot, and thank you for your kind praises over the years, relating to my music. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since we first met at W.Y.O.U., and my musical taste hasn't changed to the point of agreeing with what is called Country Music today, but that's another story.
You've been a true friend through the years and I appreciate it. I wish you the very best in your health, and hope you meet all of the major goals in your life.

Guestbook! Teddy, I had asked you to sign my guestbook, don't know if you did or not.
My webmaster had put in a guestbook where you could not remove anything anybody put there. Some aol freak named tuna piano kept calling me a idiot. right there in my own site!
WMD (Web Master Don) dumped that guestbook, put in one whose content he can control.
I have sung with every piano player in Pinellas County (jazzman Rick Bankemper is my favorite. In the jukebox on my site, check "I Thought About You.")
What I am hoping is that you will sign my new guestbook. Celebrity Tom Snyder just signed it. Your signature would beat his, because I get to hear you every day. He only writes a new piece maybe every three weeks.

The Bio you have is fine except for the last paragraph. I'd appreciate it if
you would just remove "ran afoul ith the

You can replace it with : I have worked with the homeless for the last 20 years here in Las Vegas & have a non-profit corp. , I have run for Political Office & I have been happily married to my Astrologer wife Magickal Marissa for 16 years. I'm 71 years old, bleww all my money on the homeless & I have lung

if someone said you had run "afoul with the law" & you were "homeless in Las Vegas" when neither are true?
Afoul with the law can mean running a red light . I've never been homeless in my life nor have I ever been convicted of a felony. So, take your best shot. You've
been doing it for years. I thought you were above that. If you want the truth,
have the guts to interview me on the air instead of gossiping behind my back.

Hi Marrisa,
I got the information from a Las Vegas newspaper, I did not maker this info up. If indeed he is not homeless, I appreciate your letting me know, but the facts I got where from quotes he himself gave the newspaper.
I happen to be a fan of Sonny’s and knew him when he lived down here in Tampa. I did a lot of publicity for him when I worked at WDAE.
Your tone in the email was a tad hostile, you got the wrong guy to get hostile with, I don’t like getting hit with friendly fire. I included him on my web page because I think he is integral part of Tampa Bay history.

Tedd--REALLY enjoy the site-especially the voyage back to the golden age of Tampa Bay radio-still my biggest influence as a songwriter and performer ("930 am" being an ode to WKXY and a standby in my band The Smoking Jackets' set)I used to listen to anything on the AM dial that played rock, pop or soul and remembered a disturbing amount of DJ names as well as bands from the time-when you're an only child who learns early how to turn the knob really fast to another station when, say, "Stay Awhile" by The Bells or "Will You Be Staying Afetr Sunday?" by Peppermint Rainbow comes on-uggh-I won't need lunch now--I miss WFSO, WCWR and WILZ much more than I miss being that young age-Great to read the "Where Are They Now" "Garage Bands" and "...legends" parts--more I say... |

I only yesterday discovered your terrific "Webb" page and enjoyed every element of it. Of particular interest to me was "reconnecting" with so many of the people I worked with in the Bay area in the '60s on you "Where Are They Now" page. Wonderful catching updates on people like Ed Ripley, Dean Drapin, Mel Phillips, Daylon Rushing, Stan Grams, Lolita (Dottie), among many others. Very sad to learn, though, of so many others with whom I worked who are gone...Jim Stanley, Herb Hunt, Mark Wheeler, Roy Nilson, Claire Lynn, Jim Noel among them. Of course, I'm aware of what's happened to a number of others included in "WATN", but it was particularly poignant recalling Bobby Lyons. I worked with him maybe for only a year at WFLA, but remember fondly one of the nicest guys I've met in 44 years in the business.
And I remember, fondly, you as well. Just wish I'd had the chance to get to know you better.
My best to you,
--ed

Geeze,
I've been listening to you longer than I should admit. Having grown up in St. Pete in the 50's & 60's I can remember you on the radio and WLCY, Howard Hewes, that mysterious station in Pinellas Park & others. I grew up on "Championship Wrestling from Florida" with Gordon Solie and the likes of Eddie Graham, Don Curtis, Tarzan Tyler, Hans Schmidt. . . you get the idea. I enjoy listening to you and even your mis guided cousin Mark Biero on occassion. Keep Safe and healthy.

Hay Todd...Whaddya' think about this idea: 'Suppose...I wanted to marry my dog...??? Why couldn't I do it...seems to me that they'd have to use all of the same arguments against that that are being used against them anyway. Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't be thinking about having any sex with a dog...it's just that I appreciate their loyalty...their cheerfullness...I wouldn't have to worry about a devorce...and if I wanted to have a human girl friend on the side...my dog wife wouldn't mind...right...??? Whad'ya think...??? Of course...I know how to play the game...first...I will need to find some small town mayor and get him beholding to me for political contributions...and then...when I got him in my back pocket...I make him give me a dog/marrage liscence...right...??? hummm...??? |

Ted,
I enjoy your site and want to thank you for your letter from Chris Thomas. In this time of sorrow it helps to hear more of the man, C.T. I pray for his family, you and all the others who knew Chris. You are all very blessed to have been touched by this great man. Also his extended family, ie. his viewers and listeners. Like me, they leaned on Chris to brighten there day and enlighten us(us miscreants) way beyond the realm of entertainment. Hell my vocabulary doubled in 7 years! I can't go thru the day without Perspicatity, alacrity or flerkingschmit being used in a conversation or memo.
Thanks for the great site, God Bless you Teddy!

Hi Teddy!
My day-gig keeps me isolated from the outside world for 10 hrs, so I didn't learn of Chris' passing 'til I was driving home and happend to catch your call in to the sports station. I was hurting so badly for you, and for all of us.
Years ago, my wife came home to find me in a real funk, and asked what was the matter. I said "This guy I listen to on the radio every day (Dick Norman) just died. I don't know him, I've never met or talked to him, I know this is strange, but I'm just terribly depressed."
Well, even more so now. I'd met Chris, called him often, visited him in the studio several times...he always allowed time for me and my silliness. With his fabulous dry wit, he was also a tremendous straight-man as well. I still recall an interview he did years ago with Randy Savage, I had to stop the car 'cause my laughter tears wouldn't let me drive.
This has put a hole in Tampa's heart that will be felt for a long long time.

Heard the sad news of Chris Thomas' passing. We here in MD will never forget him, his knowledge and wit while doing the sports on (and off) TV here years ago. I never had the opportunity to meet him in person but felt like I knew him well. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore. My sympathies go out to those who knew (and loved) him. Hey Tedd...Bob Hohmann sent me the communication between you two. Things are okay for me. I teach 8th grade in the NYC Public School System (English/Language Arts) and I'm Head of Language Arts for a large Jewish yeshiva in the late afternoons. I'm also a college adjunct..usually teaching Creative Writing. (I finished graduate school at NYU in 1996.) I'm just finishing a novel that is based on Jan's life (yes...she passed away after a 3-year battle with colon cancer in Sept. 2002.) called The Apples of Vermont.
I'll be looking for a literary agent by May.
I have a nice 2 bedroom apartment on the northern tip of Staten Island (across the street from the Staten Island Ferry) and from my windows one can see The Statue of Liberty and all of Manhattan. (It's strange not seeing the World Trade Centers there anymore.) Ironically....Jan's birthday was 9/11.
I've been dating another English steacher from my school these past 7 months, and that seems to be working out. (She's 14 yrs. younger...I'm 51) My health is excellent...I lost 120 lbs during the 3 years that Jan was sick, and I've kept it off (Can you believe I'm a 36 waist?) So that's the deal...I love living in NYC. I love the theater...the excitement, etc.

Hey Teddy
I began listening to you three on WFLA years ago and well I have been a fan ever since. I like you the best because you say what you think. This coming election worries me, Kerry bows to the U.N. and would give this country to them like a gift wrapped Christmas Present. How come all of a sudden war hero status matters, dole was one wasnt he? Clinton was a draft dodger, I even heard a man say what we need is a President who will not lie to us, have they really forgotten that fast, I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN and the finger pointing as he was doing it? This is not an election of parties its one of morals, the immoral left (NOT DEMOCRATS) want to win so their immoral lifestyles are justified so they have hijacked the Democratic Party just ask Zell Miller who wrote Democrats A National Party No More. We are at a crossroads sir and people who value families must vote

Tedd,
It was great to see you and your side-kicks today at the station. We really appreciate you giving the "Flexable 4" an opportunity to plug our Valentine event.
Aside from that I personally have been and continue to be a fan and supporter of you. My wife and I especially enjoy when you get an opportunity to do a couple hours by yourself.
Anyway...I'm still wondering if anyone remembers "Harry Cupp" and his wife. It's possible they were on another local stattion...maybe 570?
He was memorable because of how bad he was. He would finish each show with a song he wrote "for the children". In an attempt to pump some life into the show, his wife joined him. As I recall, towards the end of his career they would try to get donations to fix up some sailboat he owned.
Well that's the extent of my Tampa radio trivia. Look forward to seeing you around.

What a great web site! I was looking for info on a local radio guy and entered his name in dogpile, clicked on the third option and wound up on "Where are they now?" WOW!!! 3 Hours later, I'm still in awe of all of your hard work.
One name I found missing, was a bullheaded old fart from the 80's that seems to have disappeared-David Fowler. Any clues???
Another-who ran the station in Zephyrhills (WPAS-after Karol Kelly-in the 60's)and later in Winter Haven, I think, was a guy named "Bob Art" aka Bob Artabasie. Ever heard of him?? (Art-A-Base-ee)
Once again, a big thank you for all of your hard work-any reply on the 2 above mentioned will be greatly appreciated.

I followed a link to your bit on The Roemans. I am looking for anyone who might be able to tell me who's who in their promo pics, as well as when Berry Oakley replaced Joe Pappalardo on bass and when exactly Berry left to join The St. James Blues Band, his first outfit with Dickey Betts.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot,

Hi John,
Thanks for the kind words, we love Sharon. She has been a great addition to the morning crew. Our Producer Jeff Fisher is perhaps the unsung hero, he does a killer job of getting it all together, and his sardonic sense of humor is the real reason we laugh a lot during the commercials.
Thanks for being there

I have enjoyed AM TB for years. I like your straight forward commentary, Jack's humor and the icing on the cake Sharron. She keeps you guy's under control. If it were not for her you guy's would probably be banned by the FCC. Just kidding!!!!!!!!
Keep up the good work. Oh yeah. I like it when you fill in for the other radio shows during the holidays. You talk about good subjects and the change of pace is good. |

ted,
i have listened to you for more than 6 years, i have listened to you in the morning talking about select comfort beds for quite some time now. You have always stated that your number is 100 and your wife's is 25, but the other day i heard you say, "my select number is 100 all over the bed"...where is Trudy????? Just an observation. Hope all well on the home front.
Also, you have stated on many occasions your photography studio, do you still do this, and do you take new clients? I would love to have some photos taken of my 18 yr. old daughter.....please let me know if you are available for this,,,,thanks in advance.

Dear Teddie, You have always been a favorite of
my family. Heck, I used to watch you do the sports on Sunday
nite TV just because there was something about you that draws
people. Unfortunately we will be moving to Salisbury, N.C.,
(near Charlotte,) and even more unfortunately, If Al Gardner
is the only talk show host in that area I am doomed since I
listen to only talk and he is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too liberal
for us. I really hate the, We can disagree to disagree." Ugh!
Anyway Teddie, we did not know you was going thru a divorce
as I am unable to hear your morning show after getting to work.
I have tuned in with you on the Schnitt. As you said, God gives
you the strength. My heart goes out to you and your children
and we will keep you in our prayers. I always wonder about
Jack's marriage, that man is always working and you wonder
when he has time for family. Thank you for all your good information
and intellengence over the years and being a wonderful entertainer.
You are a true real man. A man all men can look up to and be
proud to know God gave you to us. Your friends in Sarasota
