Daisy
Mae & Old Brother Charlie Arnett
After performing on the CBS radio Network
shows "Renfro Valley Folks" and "Shady Valley
Folks", and legendary WWVA in Wheeling, WV, Daisy Mae and
Old Brother Charlie moved to Tampa and performed daily on WDAE
during the late 1940s, amassing quite an audience.
They moved to Charlotte, NC, for a short while
in the early 1950s, they returned to Tampa, and continued with
daily radio shows on WHBO and a weekly show on WSUN-TV. Bobby
Lord and Slim Whitman frequently appeared on their TV show. They
also performed on records.
Along the way, the TV show was discontinued
and their marriage dissolved, and they discontinued performing
as an act. I believe that Charlie Arnett moved to Miami. Daisy
Mae continued performing on WHBO, WDAE, and WTWB. (Approximately
270 of her 15-minute WHBO radio shows have survived.)
Sometime around 1966, Daisy discontinued performing
on radio and began working in the business sector. Daisy Mae
passed away around 1986, and Charlie passed away in the year 2000.
Daisy Mae and Old Brother Charlie were known
nationally during the years that they performed in the Tampa
area.
