Johnny
Dollar
Johnny was the afternoon jock at WFLA when
they were MOR (middle of the road), he worked briefly for them
when they went ‘chicken rock’ in 1964.
Great voice, very up and positive. He was
typical of the 1960's jocks, time, temp, but not very talkative.
Johnny Dollar (Jim Noel) left Tampa and returned
home with his wife and daughter to Cuba, MO. He taught
school for many years. He passed away in 1988 after an
auto accident.
Update: 4/2004
I ran across "Johnny Dollar" who worked in KC as Johnny
Dolan. He was major star on WHB (one of the original Storz Top
40 stations) until we came on with KY-102 (Album Rock) and the
world changed for Top 40. Johnny then did a short stint at a
station in Des Moines, returned to KC on KMBZ for several years.
He and I ended up working together 1983-85 for Fairbanks (KCMO
FM) in KC and, after competing for years, became good friends.
The guy can drink some beer.
He moved to Florida in '85 for a couple years
then out to Sacramento where he retired (yes, a dj retiring--guy
did the greatest record hops and put away all of his money--).
He and his wife Jan built a home in Clear Lake, CA. Couple years
later someone else built a house near his and he didn't like
them so he sold his house and built one on the other side of
the lake. He and Jan started travelling a lot.
We received Xmas cards from him up till a
couple years ago. I think he's still alive, though. Here's a
billboard that Fairbanks put up in KC. A really terrible board.
