Mel
Phillips
Worked in Tampa in '65 and '66, starting out
doing afternoons at WFLA and then moving to Big WALT where I did
mid-mornings (10-2).
After leaving Tampa Mel became Program Director
at WRKO-FM and moved over to the same position at WRKO (AM) in
'67. He went from there to be PD at WOR-FM, which became WXLO-FM,
went to Pittsburgh as PD of KQV and then on to PD of WNBC NY.
Mel was also active in a number of syndicated
radio companies (ABC, MJI, United Stations, among others).
Phillips also spent time in promotion positions
at CBS (now SONY) records both nationally & internationally.
For the last 5 years he’s been in the
programming dept. at WCBS-FM NY where he handles all the specialty
programming.
One of the best DJ's ever to work the
Tampa Bay area, his accomplishments and air work make him a first
ballot Tampa Bay Radio Hall of Famer.
Mel has started a blog called Mel Phillips Remembers:
