A.M. Tampa Bay (Monday -
Friday: 5am-9am) My friend, former Catholic priest Kevin Murray calls it "Chernobyl" for theCatholic Church. Others are even more pessimistic as to where the sexual abuse scandal will lead The Church. The Pope has summonsed the American Cardinals to Rome for a pow wow. Somepredict nothing will come of this meeting, it's just a "circle the wagon"get together to decide how to deal with the seemingly endless flow ofallegations against homosexual priest, claiming molestation. The "reformers" within the church claim ending celibacy will automatically stop the sexual abuse. Unless they are talking of allowing homosexual priests to have same sex encounters, then this idea will not float. The Church is at a crossroads, paying the price for allowing anyone to become a priest, without careful scrutiny. The Church faced a decline in ordinations in the early 1960's, and felt it had to do something drastic; they did not plan on something this drastic. The Catholic Church has a history, it has with stood many earthquakes since Jesus told Peter "you are the rock, and on this rock I will build myChurch." The inquisition was not a pretty time for the Church, but the media was not as big, and the effects were not felt as strong as this calamity. Unless the Church comes out and cleans out the stable of homosexual Cardinals, Bishops and priests whose hands are tarnished, they can forget about it. It's the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs and no one on
base. The count is full, and Casey is at the bat.
That's how I see it! |
