A.M. Tampa Bay (Monday -
Friday: 5am-9am) The Congress and President Bush have come down with a tough anti corporate corruption bill. It’s about time. Did it go far enough? I think it did, we have to be very careful not to be ultra tight on the people that create jobs. I hope you did not misunderstand me, I am angry with Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, and others, they should be punished, and their executives should be stripped of the riches they enjoy off the backs of unsuspecting people. I am merely suggesting we use our head on restrictions applied. The problem behind our corporate scandals involves greed. Not just greed on behalf of the corporate staff, but of you and me, the stock purchasers who loved the idea of easy money during the 1990s. Yeah we share that blame as well. Look around you, look at what that attitude has accomplished. Giant companies now give you only “the bottom line” service. The big boys cut corners where possible, not to be more efficient; but to put a few more bonuses into the accounts of the top brass. Look no further than Disney. They fired how many park workers, just so Michael Eisner could pay himself 80 million dollars. As long as we look at the world with dollar signs in our eyes, we miss the big picture, and everyone suffers. Profit is great, I am all for it. Jobs are very important in order to maintain a healthy society. If the bottom of the food chain has no money to purchase, whom will the big cats sell to? That's how I see it! |
