The sports world was treated to a shock Sunday in San Diego when the Tampa Bay Bucs smacked the Oakland Raiders 48-21. Not many outside of the immediate Tampa Bay area felt this could be a reality.

For the fans of this franchise, a long time coming. This is the same franchise who lost their first 26 games. This is the same franchise that drafted Booker Reese in the first round. Who? That’s what we said when we first heard of the pick. This is the same franchise which allowed franchise player Doug Williams to leave, telling him he ‘wasn’t that good’. This is the same franchise to draft Bo Jackson in the first round after he told them repeatedly not to do so, for he would not play for them, he didn’t.

This franchise was run by billionaire tight wad Hugh Culverhouse. Culverhouse had the 4th highest profiting team in the NFL, and the lowest payroll. What did he do with the money? His family in court papers alleged he spent it on young women. Many young women. They still have not forgiven him.

For these long suffering fans, I am so pleased. They have survived Ray Perkins, Richard Williamson, and an RV salesman from Atlanta named Leeman Bennett. They have survived threats of losing the team to Baltimore, Los Angeles and parts in between.

For the fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday made it all worth going through. They did not burn buildings, overturn police cars, nor smash windows. They acted with dignity, like they had been there before.

Here’s looking at you, the classiest fans in the world.

That's how I see it!
