I get emails all the time in responses to the Webb’s World editorials, some are very amusing. Recently (prior to a week ago and that famous statue coming down) the subject had been the ‘failed plan’ of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and General Tommy Franks. The emails predicted a Vietnam era quagmire.

When I read the word ‘quagmire’ I already know the tenor of the letter, and the writer. ‘Quagmire’ is the terminology of the ‘over-the-hill, 60’s era liberals;’ one of the vestiges of the Vietnam era, that gold age of the anti war left. It seems these leftists are pulling for mega casualties and misfires for our military. These people probably make up most of Al-Jazeera’s English speaking audience...

For those who wrote claiming the war and its plans were muddled in a quagmire, and we would face losing as many as 3000 troops capturing Baghdad (2 of Clinton’s old Generals, Wesley Clark and Barry McCaffrey, commenting while ‘embedded’ in TV studios), check out these startling facts:

    1. We took Iraq in less time than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

    2. It took less time to find evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

    3. It took Teddy Kennedy longer to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick than it took the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard.

    4. We took Iraq in less time than it took to count the votes in Florida in the year 2000!

And the Democrats called the Iraq effort a failed plan? Maybe they would have preferred a repeat of Clinton’s Mogadishu, where 18 Army Rangers were killed and dragged through the streets. Or, maybe they would like us to have sat back and done nothing about the threats to our country. We’ll call that one the “9/11 Approach.” Sadly, the Democratic Leadership is always worried about casualties and innocent civilians getting caught in the crossfire… until those innocents happen to be Americans.

That's how I see it!
