Dan Rather is stepping down at CBS as their evening news anchor, he will do so in March. Rather is quick to insist that his 60 Minutes debacle based on forged documents has nothing to do with this.
R-I-G-H-T! The only main anchor not to be grooming an heir apparent just decides to step down?
Dan has had more than a few embarrassing moments in his tenure at CBS, most of them coming in the last 12 years. Rather could not hide his partisanship, even to the point of refusing to count Ohio as a Red State this past election. All the precincts had reported, and Bush was the winner, but not according to CBS, they insisted they would “rather” be right than first. Every one knew this was the last act of defiance by a lefty foot soldier who could not bear to read the writing on the wall.
Rather earned his reputation as a hard nosed reporter, only when asking republican questions. He would slide the easy inquiries to his fellow donkeys. He was the last national reporter to carry the Monica Lewinsky story, fearing doing so would hurt Bill Clinton’s chances at re-election. He could not muster that fairness with Bush in 2004 and Bush Sr. in 1988.
Don’t expect his replacement to be any more fair and balanced. After all, it is the Tiffany network we’re speaking of. They are all lefties.
