Strike one for the anti political correctness crowd. The state Supreme Court in New York, struck down a law passed by the New York City Council, which stated the city would not do business with companies that did not have a policy similar to New York, which would allow benefits for same sex domestic partners.

The bill had been vetoed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but the council over rode the veto, making it law. The courts did not see it that way.

Mayor Bloomberg refused to enforce the law and was sued by Council. An appeals court overturned the law, claiming it conflicted with the competitive bidding requirements in state law.

Discrimination is nasty, should never be tolerated. BUT…you can not ram a lifestyle down people’s throats, no matter how hard you try.

There should be no discrimination against homosexuals, nor any other group. That is dead wrong. BUT, you can’t go around passing laws that prohibit the city from conducting sound business practices. Some put a political agenda above what is best for their community or country.

I think 2006 will be a turnaround year in the battle against political correctness. There are more and more people saying “enough is enough”.

That’s how I see it!
