Keep an eye on Tom Tancredo, Republican Representative from Colorado. This past weekend ole Tom won the straw poll in Michigan in Macomb County.
Tancredo is very much against illegal immigration and he is getting traction in the west and southwest for his stance. Tancredo reflects the mindset of most Americans, and that is “we are tired of picking up the tab for the illegals”.
2008 is not that far away, and at the very worst, Tancredo could cause a traditional Republican and Democrats plenty of votes. The immigration issue transcends party lines. Tancredo could draw that vote in a big way. Keep an eye on him.
Outside of Tancredo, no one has placed themselves in the cross hairs of the Media and others supporting clemency. Most politicians like to steer clear of that controversy, not Tancredo. Tom meets illegal immigration head on, and is the only one who has placed a solution on the table.
You may think the price of gas is going to be the key issue in 2008, I think it will be a minor issue. The main issue will be the security of this nation, and what the individual candidates propose in regards to our borders.
Right now I feel Tom Tancredo is good for about 30% of the vote in this country, and that is significant.
